Halogen bulb product information

The traditional incandescent light bulb is most commonly used in many parts of the world. But when cost effective and efficient lightening solution is required then halogen bulb is the best option. The halogen bulb is based on the incandescent lamp technology. The halogen bulb functions by letting the electricity pass through tungsten or filament enclosed by a glass tube filled with halogen gas.

It is most commonly used in the home, offices and automobiles. The halogen gas initiates a chemical reaction, which results into brighter and lighter light. The filaments or tungsten must have high temperature in order to initiate the chemical reaction.

The halogen bulb is encased inside a smaller quartz envelope. The halogen is an element that causes the delay in breaking of filament in halogen bulb. The halogen bulbs are usually made up of harder glass. The halogen bulbs and lamps are the cheaper alternatives to the incandescent lights.

The iodine or bromine can also be used in the halogen bulb to illuminate it. The first commercially used elemental iodine lamp was called Quartz Iodine Lamps. The halogen bulb is more energy efficient and cost effective than the incandescent light bulbs. Because of their smaller sizes, the halogen bulbs can also be used with the optical systems. The bulb needs to be made up of the fused silica or high melting point glass.

The high gas pressure is required to reduce the rate of evaporation of the filament. The halogen bulb 12 to 24 Volt operations has very good light output. The halogen bulbs have been manufactured with enough halogen. Increasing the voltage increases the rate of evaporation and with the reduced voltage, the evaporation is also lowered.

The halogen lamp's life depends upon its design, material and the amount of halogen being used in it. Like the traditional bulbs, the halogen bulbs are not usually burn out due to the slow dissipation of tungsten. The halogen floodlights provide the best outdoor lighten systems. The halogen lights are most commonly used in the homes, theatres, parks, stadiums and medical facilities.

It produces more light and they can operate on the reduced energy input. They can produce a focused beam of light where you require it. A typical halogen bulb can lasts for approximately 3 years. The halogen bulbs are 25% more economical than the other forms of lights. The halogen bulbs are required to emit 250 degree Celsius to work efficiently.

Like the other bulbs, it produces the ultraviolet output so you need to very careful when illuminating the halogen bulb. There are some precautionary measures that you should adopt to avoid any kind of dangers.

The halogen bulbs produce extreme heat and they are fire hazards. You need to place your halogen lamps far from walls, furniture, papers, drapes, shelves and fire. It operate at very high temperature, it can pose fire. In some areas, the halogen bulbs are banned from residential use. It also emits ultraviolet rays, so make sure that your halogen bulb contains ultraviolet glass filter.

Some safety codes require that the halogen bulbs to be protected by a grid and high power bulbs used in the commercial theatres. Always remember to switch off your halogen bulb or lamp when your home or office.

A normal bulb is not as efficient as halogen bulb because it has only 750 to 1000 hours life. It also produces a tremendous amount of heat and since the purpose of the bulb is to produce light so the heat is the wasted energy.

There is a huge variety of the halogen bulbs and lamps and they can also be purchased online. The most common types include general service halogen, energy saving, candle lamps, discharge lamps and spot lamps.
