In today's age of increasing pollution there is a greater awareness and voluntary efforts to preserve the ecological balance by using environment friendly resources. Incandescent bulbs were found to be great contributors to the pollution blanketing the earth's surface. Thus there is more stress on use of products that have nullifying effects on the environment.

LED bulbs have scored over the traditional standard bulbs
LED bulbs have been found to be the ultimate solution to the perennial problem of disintegrating healthy environment. It is considered to be the next most important source of light. Unlike the fluorescent and incandescent bulb the LED bulb does not use a filament or any luminary gas.

The LED technology is based on diode which is a semi conducting component. Low voltage currents are passed through these diodes that cause the electrons to be stirred and aggravated within its substances which help to produce light. This light is not harmful for the environment as they do not rely on any gases and their substances which make up for their composition cannot be broken down.

These LED light bulbs are available in various colors both for use at home and commercial purposes. The color of the LED bulb is due to the chemicals in the diode's composition. Recently a breakthrough was achieved when the white LED was produced by mixing the yellow and the blue.

Prior to this invention the LED bulbs had a primary color and used for displays, instrument lighting and indicators but not ready to take over the position of the incandescent bulbs

Different forms of LED bulbs
The use of the LED lights is evident in the numbers found on digital clocks and also in the instrument panel lighting used in boats, aircrafts and vehicles. Traffic lights are now being made with clusters of LED. Due to its energy saving characteristic and ability to tolerate temperature variations a drive to create light bulbs by clustering numerous LED’s was launched which produced magical results.

With the introduction of the white LED bulbs there was an upsurge in the designs, sizes and technology in the manufacturing section as the opportunity to reap rich harvests was contemplated due to its cost efficiency and environment conserving characteristic. After this successful attempt a Californian law has been passed for the elimination of incandescent lights by 2010.

LED for cars
Auto manufacturing units have started using LED bulbs for their cars instead of the electric light bulb. These LED bulbs are smaller and consume less power. They are capable of fitting into any space and are very versatile. These LED bulbs help to light up the dashboard in the cars to help you keep a track of the speed, the RPM levels and the amount of gas that you have.

Disadvantages of LED bulbs
LED Bulbs are not cheap
The LED bulbs are not very cheap and considering that most of the homes and business settings have bulbs which are over 30 in number this could be a widespread concern.

The LED bulbs do not radiate much brightness
The CFL bulbs and standard bulbs spread the light in all directions, but the LED bulbs focuses on a particular area only instead of covering the entire expanse. This may serve well while reading and working but is not a good option for general illumination.

Not all LED bulbs are long lasting
Most of the manufacturers use low quality LED’s in a bid to produce cheaper LED bulbs and this results in the premature burnout of the bulbs.

Degradation of the light output
LED does not release their heat like the incandescent bulbs. It retains the heat which causes the quality of the light to diminish. Heat syncs are used for redirecting the heat to a circuit board which has resulted in overloading of temperature. Studies have shown a fifty percent loss of light output in a time span of 6 months.
