Generally, longer lifespan reflector light bulb should be used in areas with high ceiling, hard to reach or in places where lighting is frequently switched on. This will save consumers the trouble of having to use a ladder and climb high to change the bulb every two to three months. Save the shorter lifespan bulbs for areas requiring less use of lightings. While incandescent reflector light bulbs can bring out the most accurate colors of objects, it is expensive to run and will heat up fairly quickly. Halogen lamps are halogen-filled bulbs that works best to mimic natural sunlight. It is also brighter and more energy efficient compared to incandescent light. The lowest energy consumption reflector light bulbs is undeniably the compact fluorescent reflector. Compared to incandescent bulbs, this type of bulb can save energy cost by 75%, besides requiring less energy from air conditioners to cool down.

A lesser known use of reflector light bulbs is actually to produce heat, not light. These are usually used for drying paint, for food industry and for animal enclosure. Various colors of reflective bulbs are also available in the market to cater for different purposes.
